It was too good to be true, wasn't it? Japanese developer PlatinumGames had four lovely announcements lined up for us over the past couple of months or so, with the final one landing on April Fools Day. Surely this cool reveal would be a welcome break from everyone's attempt at a joke, right? Well, we were wrong. PlatinumGames' fourth announcement is indeed one big gag, as you can see in the trailer above.
After The Wonderful 101 Remastered, Project G.G., and a new studio in Tokyo, the final thing is an arcade machine for a game called Sol Cresta. It is based on classic side-scrolling shoot em ups Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta from the 1980s. We're not entirely sure what the "joke" is here, because we've never even heard of these titles before, we have to admit.
What we can say, however, is that you shouldn't be getting any hopes up for the developer's last reveal. Sol Cresta appears to be it, tricking us all in the process. Were you hoping for something different? Share your sorrows in the comments below.

Many people do April fools joke. But this is the first one I’ve come across that have been trailed in advance.
Is it just me or was this entire thing from Platinum a bit rubbish and unnecessary? It starts with a remaster of an underwhelming game, them moving studio, a teaser for a game with little or no information and then this. I honestly don't get it
The Nier Replicant remaster was the best news that was Platinum related, and I'm actually not sure if they have anything to do with it either!
It's funny how a beloved studio is trying hard to be hated just because 1st April exists.
@Ryall it seems to be a new trend on stupidness: pushing the "joke" to the limit of tolerance. There was a fake leak on Flipboard studio for switch which was an April dumb joke
People who get angry over April Fools jokes must have so little joy in their lives.
It feels kinda cheating as they announced that there would be an announcement days in advance.
@BalsBigBrother ...it’s literally games. It’s not like they’re joking about coronavirus. Hell, humour helps in these situations.
The only April Fools I see is that Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta are supposedly "side scrollers".
It’s not even funny though 🤷🏻♀️
Great joke guys..... ha you guys... I’m more interested than ever now.....
NOT
Sol Cresta is an anagram of scat loser.
Just felt like pointing that out.
@nessisonett so this made you laugh then? If this made you laugh I’d suggest you are the one without joy in your life. This isn’t funny. 90% of April fools jokes aren’t jokes and aren’t funny which is why people don’t like them
Kinda figured it would be some gag or whatever. Anyways, I hope they show off Bayonetta 3 sometime soon.
''Platinum Four'' sounded amazing at first, remember Capcom Five?
What did we get? The announcement of a Kickstarter of a port; They have a new engine (woohoo?); They are making a new game (big surprise); and an April Fools joke. Just brilliant.
@Stocksy It’s a successful pisstake of ‘announcements of announcements’. Too many companies across media get you hyped before there’s even anything to be hyped about. At least they had fun with it.
I hope there's a real announcement after the April's fools thing.
Been waiting for a sequel to these games for 35 years!
Nice one platinum.
